1) One who loves, supports, and defends one's country
2) A person who vigorously supports his country and its way of life
There is a third definition found in Merriam's Dictionary that goes something like this:
"one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests"
I am of the opinion that Merriam's got it wrong (see the bolded portion). A patriot does not
necessarily agree with his country's authority or interests", especially when that "authority"
(or said "interests") infringes on a person's rights.
I see myself as a patriot as defined by the first two definitions found on this page. I took
an oath (several times throughout my life) to support and defend the Constitution of the United
States of America, and my intention is to do exactly that. The pages associated with this part
of paddedwall.org are provided for your education. If you are not a patriot, you are not welcome
on my property or in my home. I do not invite discussion.
In my eyes, the Constitution is the sole law of the land, and cannot be usurped by
unconstitutional edicts, executive orders, nor insane or misguided "modern" interpretations of
its meaning. Perversions of its intent are not tolerated. Negotiations and comprimises are not
valid. It says what it says, and it means what it means. The time for talk is finished.
Violations of its enumerated rights and/or ideals, when directed at me, will be met with
appropriate, legitimate, and indignant force.
I am a patriot. There are millions of Americans just like me. Violate our rights at your own peril.
